Holy fuck, it's hot
We're in the middle of the first summer heat wave and my brain is ready to implode. But, because I'm crazy, I went out into the garden and braved the vengeful sun god, Ra. He and I will have words later.
Animals: I'll get you, my pretties. (I really won't. Just adding more whirligigs in hopes that the creatures will leave my new seeds alone.)
Hooks: Lookin' gorgeous. No flowers yet on the strawberries, but I've managed to keep the plant alive so far. The galaxy petunias are in full bloom. Their beauty and need for care keep me from turning into a full-time hermit.
Plants: Today, I finally had the chance to pull out my large envelope of seeds and go to town. Into the soil went zinnias, cosmos, sunflowers (yellow, black and fire), red and white carnations, salvias and lupines. Fingers crossed that some of them germinate.
I also repotted the babies breath which looks gorgeous, the shasta daisies which are struggling in this heat and the white geraniums.
The peonies were blooming beautifully (see left) until this wretched heat wave and now they're all either shriveled/dead or hiding. Curse you, Ra!
Water: Everything. Will do it again tonight -- and twice a day this week -- due to the brutal temps.
Weather: Low 69/High 93 degrees, fair, 37% humidity, 9 mph wind, 0% chance of rain. UV index 8 of 10. Barometric pressure 29.96 falling. Moon phase: Waxing crescent. Heat advisory: Heat index values up to 97 expected. From 11 AM this morning to 8 PM EDT Monday. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.
