Yes, you need sunlight to make most plants grow. Heat helps, too, unless a plant is particularly fragile. But brutal heat waves and drought are the enemies of gardens, and this week, they've become my nemesis too.
Every day, I have gone outside and watered the plants, trying desperately to keep them alive. When I was able, and not in agony from heat-induced migraines, I hit the garden first thing after work, before the heat became unbearable. Twice, I didn't have that luxury and was therefore outside, watering in vain in 102F temps. It was, in a word, brutal.
I have no idea what will survive, but so far, it's not looking good.
